Az sshd és az SSD közötti különbség az adattárolás módjában rejlik. Az sshd egy hibrid meghajtó, amely kombinálja a merevlemezt és az SSD-t, míg az SSD teljesen szilárdtestű meghajtó. Az sshd gyorsabb adatelérést biztosít a merevlemezhez képest, de nem olyan gyors, mint az SSD. Az SSD sokkal gyorsabb adatelérést és adatátvitelt biztosít, így az ideális választás a nagy teljesítményű rendszerek számára.

A hibrid hdd-nek és az SSHD-nek is megvannak a maga előnyei, azonban a hibrid HDD-nek az ára általában kedvezőbb, és nagyobb tárolókapacitással rendelkezik. Az SSHD viszont gyorsabb adatátviteli sebességet biztosít, és jobb teljesítményt nyújt a rendszerindításnál és az alkalmazások betöltésénél.
